A Fantastic Christmas Journey

​The Asian and Multicultural Ministries in Canada (AMMiC) delivered an early Christmas treat to Vancouver audiences with A Fantastic Christmas Journey, a magical children’s musical presented in collaboration with YHF Theatre and Hong Kong’s Jumbo Kids Theatre. Staged for two performances at the Norman & Annette Rothstein Theatre, the production welcomed more than 600 audience members. The musical was co-directed by Even Lam and Ray Kwok, with acclaimed local musician Raymond Sham leading a live band performance.

Set on Christmas Eve, A Fantastic Christmas Journey follows a group of students from Class 3D at Jumbo Kids Primary School as they visit a seniors’ home to spread holiday cheer. While helping decorate the venue and preparing festive activities, one student, Ah Lui, encounters a kind elderly man who gives her a mysterious gift, the beginning of an unforgettable magical adventure.

Filled with warmth, compassion, and family-centered themes, the story resonated with audiences of all ages. The production featured imaginative, storybook-inspired staging alongside original music performed live on stage, creating an immersive theatrical experience for families and children alike.

The project also marked a meaningful artistic collaboration between Hong Kong and Vancouver, showcasing the power of cultural exchange and community connection through the performing arts. Hong Kong’s Jumbo Kids Theatre is known for its family-friendly children’s productions, while YHF Theatre is committed to engaging local youth and communities through theatre-making. Together, the two groups hope to bring joy, creativity, and heartfelt storytelling to Vancouver audiences, particularly Chinese Canadian families and the broader community.
